1. Terrarium placement.

Place the carnivorous plant terrarium in a place where the airflow is stable and therefore not in a draft. Do not place the terrarium directly next to a window because of the cold or warm air that may come through the window. Place the terrarium in a place where it gets enough daylight, the plants need this to grow, finally it is important to place the terrarium in a place with room temperature. Have you found the ideal spot for your terrarium? Super! Take the lid off the terrarium and start decorating.

2. Coconut tablets

Spread the chef's tablets all over the bottom of the terrarium and add 75 milliliters of water per chef's tablet. After you have done this, mix it all together until you have a layer of soil on the bottom of your terrarium. Soggy soil? Then you're doing it right! Carnivorous plants like to have their ''feet'' in the soggy soil. After all, they are plants that originally live in wetlands.

3. Setting up terrarium

Create a hole in the earth and remove the pot from the carnivorous plant. Once you have done this, place the plant in the hole. Repeat this process with the other carnivorous plants until your terrarium is full of plants.

4. Water meter installation

Satisfied with how your carnivorous plants are in the terrarium? Nice! Then finally, make a small hole in the earth where you place the water meter. Make sure you place the water meter with the black side in the earth.

5. Decorating

You're almost there! Now it's time to start decorating, take the included moss from the bag and cover the earth with it so you have a nice green top layer. This will make the plants look even more beautiful!

6. Watering

Water that's what carnivores love like no other! But beware, carnivorous plants are picky plants and prefer rainwater or distilled water to tap water. This is because tap water contains traces of lime to which the carnivores are not very resistant. Water the plants in the terrarium until the red indicator on the water meter is all the way up. Does the water meter drop after a few days? Then give some more water so that the plants keep their feet wet, just the way they like it.

Tip: Does this water meter indicator not go up after watering? Rinse the water meter well under the faucet because there are probably some grains of soil stuck in the water meter 😉

Frequently asked questions about the carnivorous plant terrarium

Plants terrarium royalty

You just need to make sure the soil is sufficiently moist. NEVER give the plants extra plant food. The poorer the soil, the better the plants will grow.

When the leaf of the venus fly trap turns black it undergoes a normal process and you need not worry. Each individual leaf (trap) of the plant has an average lifespan of opening and closing 6 times before the mouth turns black. Dead leaves (traps) are best removed so the plant has more strength to grow new leaves.

Tap water is "hard" water, meaning that it contains all kinds of minerals and calcium particles that the plants cannot handle well. In order for your carnivorous plants to grow as optimally as possible, it is important to use nutrient-poor carnivorous plant soil and water. Swampworld Raindrops is 100% rainwater making it the perfect water source for the growth and development of carnivorous plants.

Most carnivorous plants like sunlight and soggy soil. So feel free to place the plants in a few inches of water. The included water meter will give you an indication of when the plants need water again.

Carnivorous plants regulate their own nutrition. So never give the plants real meat, they regulate this themselves. Of course, you can help the plants a little if you want to by putting a self-caught fly in the terrarium. But the plants basically do not need flies to survive.

Caring for Carnivorous Plants

Carnivorous plants, such as Venus flytraps and pitcher plants, require specific care, including plenty of light and humid conditions. They grow best in rainwater or distilled water, as tap water may contain minerals that are harmful to these plants. It is also important to plant them in nutrient-poor soil, such as peat moss, and avoid feeding them with artificial insects or fertilizers.
