By following this plan step by step, a pond can be created that, through its natural plant filter, keeps the pond in a biological balance. A filter or pump is then no longer needed.

A swamp filter is a combination of plants and bacteria that ensures that waste products from the water are absorbed and broken down. A plant filter works best on a bottom of pond substrate. A natural pond is one in which no artificial materials are used such as foil or another plastic to seal the bottom. Also, this pond has no pump and no chemicals are used in it. Everything in this pond is maintained completely naturally. The water in this pond is maintained by groundwater and rain. No tap water is used, but water from a nearby ditch or pond that connects to the pond.
