GH value | Measuring water values is necessary, isn't it?
Water values is a subject that many pond owners have to deal with sooner or later. But which water values actually exist and what do they mean? One water value you often hear about is GH value.
GH value stands for "Joint Hardness," this means that it is responsible for the total hardness of the water in the pond. When the pond water is tested and this test shows that the GH value of the water is too high then this means that the water hardness of all the water in the pond does not meet the standard; between 8-12 German Unit (DH).
Now there is no need to check the hardness of the water and the GH, PH and KH values in your pond continuous measurement because this will vary a little every day because of the changing weather conditions. But of course you want to keep the environment in your pond healthy, this is possible, provided the natural water feature from the time of pond construction is well designed. With this you create a good balance in the pond.
After the pond has been constructed, we start with the layout of the pond. As a pond specialist for 35 years now, I regularly experience that people underestimate the pond setup or are not aware of how closely a well designed pond is related to a stable GH and thus the ideal water hardness. When the pond is well designed, these water values need not be not measured.
To keep the GH, KH and PH values and water hardness in the pond good, the base of the pond must also be good. Start by laying down pond substrate at the bottom of the pond, then place enough oxygen plants in the pond and finally add pond bacteria add.
Supplies for a maintenance-free pond
A GH value between 7-13 GH is considered ideal. The GH value in your pond's water can drop rapidly due to changing weather conditions such as cold or precipitation. Because the weather varies from day to day, the GH value will never be able to be precisely monitored.
GH stands for 'Combined Hardness', meaning that it determines the total hardness of the water in the pond or aquarium. So the other water values; 'KH, PH' depend on the GH value.

Simon's vision is to let nature do its work in your pond. No need to buy all kinds of measuring equipment and water improvers. If the fish are swimming nicely and the plants are growing well, then the water in the pond is of good quality. With a good planting plan and the right approach, you can save a lot of money and maintenance, and ensure a clear, biologically balanced pond that becomes more beautiful every year.
