Oxygen plants pond package
Boost oxygen, prevent air hopping in fish and promote plant growth
Oxygen plants are essential for a clear, healthy pond. Add loose oxygen plants and bacta clear in the spring to start up the pond and minimize algae. Too few oxygen plants and lack of good bacteria lead to slimy plants. So more oxygen plants are always better. They filter water, reduce warming from sunlight, prevent algae growth and provide fish hiding places. We supply hardy oxygen plants from our own nursery, with 100% growth and flowering guarantee.
Oxygen Plants and Bacta Clear are essential for crystal clear, healthy water. Together they increase oxygen levels, eliminating the need for a pump or filter, limiting algae growth and providing a safe haven for fish. Minimum recommendation for pond oxygen plants: at least 10-12 individual plants per m³ and 2 baskets of 4 plants per m²
- Natural Balance: Our oxygen plants are essential for creating a natural balance in your pond, keeping it free of algae. These plants filter the water and block sunlight, keeping the water cooler and reducing algae formation. As a result, you don't need an external pump or filter, making for a more natural and low-maintenance pond system.
- Strong plants: Because our plants are sent directly from the nursery as young plants and plugs with the occasional single leaf giving them an advantage over larger plants that are already partially grown, as they have to switch to a new environment first which makes it take longer for them to grow.
- Easy to plant: Our oxygen plants, delivered in baskets, are perfect for shallow areas of the pond. For the deep parts in the pond, use the loose oxygen plants that you just throw loose in the pond.

Tip from Simon: More plants in your pond is always better.
Too few plants increases the risk of algae and plant death. If necessary, choose additional plants you like in addition to the package.
On the first warm days, the algae always popped up quickly in my pond
I had the same frustrating problem every spring: my pond was full of algae. I really tried everything to solve this, from chemicals to expensive filtration systems, but nothing seemed to work. Then I came across the roadmap on vdvelde.com and received expert advice about my pond. It turned out that the problem was a lack of the right amount and combination of oxygen plants. On the advice of vdvelde.com, I purchased an oxygen plant package that exactly matched the size of my pond. And guess what? Since then I haven't had any problems with algae. My pond water is now clear year-round, and the pond looks healthier than ever. It's incredible how something as relatively simple as adding the right oxygen plants can make such a huge difference.... I am extremely happy with my oxygen plant kit!

Excellent 200+ reviews at
Oxygenating plants and a bottle of Bacta clear
Purchased: Pond clear package - M
My pond was quite murky, so after a good conversation with Simon, I decided to follow the advice: more oxygen plants and a bottle of bacteria. I ordered the recommended package, but after four days no improvement was visible. Full of disappointment, I contacted customer service. They advised me to be patient and give the process 2-3 weeks. Although I had my doubts about it, I decided to wait anyway. And what turned out? After two weeks, the water started to clear and I even saw frogs that I had never noticed before! Thanks team vdvelde, and apologies for my impatience!
Plants are growing much better now and water is crystal clear
Purchased: POND SUBSTRATE pond substrate - 40 liters
Last year I had a landscaper install a plant filter at my swimming pond, recommending lava and some plants from the local garden center. Unfortunately, things went completely wrong; the plants died one by one and I suffered an algae infestation. After contacting customer service, I was advised to replace the lava with pond substrate and order some more plants. Now, several months later, the plants are growing well, and my filter is finally free of algae.
My little city pond
Purchased: Complete Pond Package - S - Red
I had been dreaming of having a pond in my urban garden for some time, but it always seemed like such a hassle. Online I found a complete package and decided to take the gamble, although I was skeptical about the quality of plants sent through the mail. But to my surprise, everything was delivered neatly and well-packaged. Within no time I had my pond set up. To my delight, after only two months I saw the first water lily bloom, and as icing on the cake I discovered salamanders in my pond. No idea how they got there, but it only adds to the joy. Truly enjoying it!
A must for anyone with a pond (large or small)
Purchased: Simons Pond Advice Book
This book completely meets my expectations. A great guide with lots of great tips on pond construction, pond plants and design.
Highly recommended purchase on my part.
Great book!
Blue lily: beautiful!

Frequently asked questions about oxygen plant packages
In an oxygen plant kit, you will find a carefully curated selection of oxygen plants. These plants are specifically chosen for their ability to oxygenate pond water and aid in natural purification. The purpose of these plants is to promote a healthy pond ecosystem by keeping the water clear and reducing algae growth. Oxygen plants play a crucial role in maintaining water quality and provide a good habitat for fish and other pond inhabitants. Through their natural filtering function, they contribute to a balanced and healthy pond environment.
No, you do not need an additional pump or filter in addition to our oxygen plant package. Oxygen plants naturally have the capacity to naturally clear and maintain water clarity, provided you have a sufficient and varied selection of oxygen plants in your pond. These plants contribute to the natural balance of the pond ecosystem by purifying the water of waste products and providing it with oxygen, which is essential for a healthy pond. This makes them an effective, natural alternative to mechanical filtration systems.
The oxygen plants pond package fights algae in the pond in a natural and effective way. Through photosynthesis, these plants produce oxygen, which is essential for a healthy pond environment. Proper oxygen levels support biological balance and help break down organic matter, reducing nutrients for algae. Oxygen plants compete with algae for the same nutrients (such as nitrates and phosphates). By actively using these nutrients for their growth, they leave less for algae, thus limiting the algae population.
The Oxygen Plants Pond Package plays a crucial role in the natural prevention of algae by keeping the pond ecosystem healthy and balanced. These plants help increase oxygen levels in the water through their photosynthesis process, which is essential for supporting beneficial bacteria that break down organic matter. This reduces the amount of nutrients available to algae. At the same time, the oxygen plants compete directly with algae for these nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, reducing the algae's chance to grow.
The main reason fish gasp for air and may eventually die is a lack of oxygen in the pond water. This problem can occur especially in the following situations:
- Oxygenating plants in hibernation: During late winter and early spring, when oxygenating plants are not yet fully active, the oxygen supply in the water may be deficient. These plants do not begin to produce more oxygen until the weather gets warmer and they come out of their dormancy period.
- Changes in acidity caused by rain: Abundant rainfall can significantly change the composition of pond water, including acidity. This can reduce the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, causing fish to become breathless.
To address this problem, there are roughly two options:
- Wait and see: You can choose to do nothing and let nature take its course. After a few weeks, the oxygen plants will become active again and add enough oxygen to the water.
- Add additional oxygen plants: A more immediate solution is to add additional oxygen plants to the pond. Choose plants that are already out of dormancy, such as by purchasing them from a nursery where they have been raised under warmer conditions. This can immediately help increase oxygen levels in the pond.
Advice: If no fish are currently gasping for air or dying, you might consider taking no action for now. For the future, especially if there is a lot of rain, you might consider adding additional oxygen plants (usually) early in the season, around February when you normally add Bacta Clear, to get ahead of this problem as well.
