A heron around the pond is not only annoying for you, but also for your fish because they can sense impending danger from movements above the water and vibrations in the water. If the fish have no place to shelter from this danger it gives a lot of stress and they will be easily hijacked by the heron. Floating aquatic plants and water lilies provides the fish with hiding and breeding places. Minimum advice for aquatic plants in the pond: At least 2 baskets with 4 plants (total of 8 plants) per 1 m² With our heron repel pond package, you'll discourage herons and other birds of prey from hijacking fish from your pond. Fish sense danger unerringly because they can detect movements and shadows, even from above the water's surface, alerting them to approaching predators. Fish also have a special sense that helps them sense vibrations and pressure changes in the water. It allows them to signal movements in their environment, such as those of an approaching heron, even if they cannot see the predator. Fish get themselves to safety in time, as long as they have floating aquatic plants to shelter under. The heron repel pond package consists of floating aquatic plants, water lilies and Pond bacteria. Floating plants serve not only as shelter to the fish, but also as a breeding ground. The female lays her eggs among the aquatic plants. This may be by sticking them directly on the plants or by scattering them in the water in hopes that they will descend and nest among the plants. Because the aquatic plants make the fish less visible and serve as nesting sites, your fish will live a stress-free life. Because the plants in the heron repellent package do not proliferate and are tailored to different pond sizes, the plants only cover part of the pond so you continue to see your fish. The Pond bacteria provide clear and balanced water which makes the habitat for your fish even finer. Tip: Add bacteria twice a year to keep water values balanced. My pond was quite murky, so after a good conversation with Simon, I decided to follow the advice: more oxygen plants and a bottle of bacteria. I ordered the recommended package, but after four days no improvement was visible. Full of disappointment, I contacted customer service. They advised me to be patient and give the process 2-3 weeks.
