Planting plugs
Plug plants are compact plants with a solid root ball, directly transplantable. Plug plants are hardened off at our nursery, making them resistant to cold, heat and drought. Thanks to their strong roots, they grow quickly and filter water by reducing nitrate and nitrite.

Frequently asked questions about filter plants
The choice of plants depends on what you want to achieve. In our opinion, the top 6 best plants for a natural pond filter are: flag iris, sweet flag, water mint, dwarf licorice, needlewort and parrot feather. These plants can also be ordered from us as a complete package, a plant filter mix of 64 plants, specially formulated for optimal filtration and clear water.
The amount of plants depends on the size of your pond and the specific needs of the ecosystem. In general, the larger the pond, the more plants you need. A good rule of thumb is to have at least 12 to 15 plants per square meter of water surface, but this can vary depending on the plant species and the specific requirements of your pond.

What are plug plants for the pond?
Benefits of plugs pond plants
- Easy to handle: Light and easy to move, ideal for pond, swamp and filter construction.
- Uniformity: plugs grow in controlled conditions, ensuring uniform quality.
- Healthy root development: The compact root ball prevents root damage when repotting or transplanting.
- Saving time: plugs skip a growth phase, making the process more efficient.
Unique advantages of our aquatic plants plugs
- Hardy assortment: We offer a wide range of hardy pond plants. This guarantees plants that are resistant to frost and perfect for long-term use in various pond and water environments.
- Refrigerated storage at rest: By storing the plugs in a refrigerated cell at rest, their growth process is slowed down. This maintains their quality and viability, making them ready for immediate use when conditions are ideal.
- Size of plants: Our plugs often grow into plants more vigorous than those in a 9 cm or even larger pot. This means that customers need not compromise on plant size, despite the plugs' more compact shape.
- Time savings in handling: Working with plugs takes much less time than handling traditional plants in 9 cm pots, as often offered in garden centers or at regular aquatic plant nurseries. This reduces labor costs and increases efficiency.
- Better growth results: Pond plants in 9-inch pots, as you often encounter during the aquatic plant season, often contain young plants. This can be detrimental to growth and final results. Our plugs are already further developed, resulting in a healthier, more robust plant with better growth potential.
Our pond plant plugs are an efficient, high-quality solution that provides an excellent year-round foundation for successful pond construction and maintenance.
