6 Expert Tips for Caring for a Plant Terrarium
Find out how to easily keep your plant terrarium alive and thriving with this short care guide. A terrarium provides a miniature ecosystem for your plants, creating a stable environment with minimal effort. Discover the fascinating world of plant ecosystems, an adventure that brings you closer to the wonders of nature.
1. Terrarium Placement.
Place your terrarium in a bright spot in your home or office to receive adequate daylight. Avoid direct sunlight, bright spotlights, and placement near heat sources such as heaters. North-facing windows may not provide enough light. The ideal temperature is between 15 and 25°C.
2. Turning the Ecosystem
Rotate the terrarium a quarter turn every two weeks to give all plants even light. This helps maintain a healthy ecosystem and extends the life of your terrarium.
3. Watering
Although terrariums require little maintenance, it may sometimes be necessary to add water, on average once every six months. Use the dryness of the soil as an indicator. Add 5 to 10 cl of water if the soil feels dry. Repeat if necessary.
4. Dealing with Mold and Condensation
Mold spots may occur. Remove them carefully and cut away damaged areas. Minimal condensation is normal; if excessive, open the terrarium to let it "breathe" and move it if necessary.
5. Insects and Growth
Leave small flies within your ecosystem; they are nutritious for your plants. If plants grow excessively, prune them carefully to control growth. Leave the terrarium open after pruning to allow the plants to recover.
6. Mushrooms and Moss
Enjoy any mushrooms; they are a natural part of your ecosystem. For dry or browned moss, moisten it and place it back. This helps "recharge" the moss and restore its green color.
By following these steps, you will ensure a healthy and long-lasting mini-ecosystem in your terrarium 😉

Frequently asked questions about Mini Ecosystems
To restore the moss in your terrarium to a vibrant green color, follow these steps: First, carefully open your terrarium and remove the moss. Next, soak the moss in water for several hours. After soaking, gently squeeze the moss to remove excess water. Place the moss back in your terrarium and lightly press it into the ground to secure it in place.
No the lights in your terrarium do not need to be on, this is just for decoration. The terrarium only needs indirect sunlight to keep the plants healthy.
Yes, although terrariums require little maintenance, it is sometimes necessary to add water, on average once every six months. Use the dryness of the soil as an indicator of when watering is needed. If the soil feels dry, carefully add 5 to 10 cl of water. Repeat this process if necessary.
If you notice that the plants in your terrarium are growing too fast and almost touching the lid, it's time to prune. Use scissors or special terrarium scissors to cut off branches that are too long just above a leaf start. For precision work, use terrarium tweezers or grippers. This will keep your ecosystem healthy and within the confines of your terrarium.
