Nelumbo Lotus overwintering
In the pond: You might think you can just leave your lotus in the pond during the winter, but beware: only if your pond does not freeze completely. Cut away old leaves and let your lotus sink to the bottom. But don't forget to take it out early in spring and put it in a warm place with lots of light so it can gather strength for the growing season.

Lotus flower meaning
Lotus plants
- Species:There are mainly two species in the genus Nelumbo: Nelumbo nucifera, known as the Asian lotus, and Nelumbo lutea, the American lotus. Both species have similar growth modes and flowers, but differ in their geographic distribution and some physical characteristics.
- Growing conditions: Lotus plants require a warm and sunny climate to thrive. They grow in shallow, muddy or wetlands such as ponds, swamps, and slow-flowing rivers. The roots of the plant are planted in the mud, while the leaves and flowers rise above the surface of the water.
- Leaves and Flowers: The leaves of the lotus plant are large, round, and often floating. They have a water-repellent surface. The flowers are very striking, large, and can be a variety of colors, including pink, white, and sometimes yellow or blue. The flowers open in the morning and close.

Lotus
The lotus flower brings life to your pond. Each day it unfolds its flowers with the sunrise and closes them again as the sun sets. This easy-to-care-for plant feels at home in many different conditions, making it easy to care for.
Lotus flowers: an addition for your pond
Lotus flowers come in different sizes. Although some species can grow up to 5 meters, many pond owners choose smaller varieties that fit better in a standard pond and can better withstand the European climate with its lower temperatures and strong winds.
