Our aquatic plants are grown with the utmost care. Special attention is paid to the development and growth from root to plant. Quality control also takes place when packing your order. So you can be sure that the plants you purchase from us are core healthy.

Also keep in mind that plants will not start sprouting until spring (April / May). Planting in the winter is possible, but the growth will take place several months later.

1.Planting plants and use of material

  • Plants supplied with pond baskets: Use only the supplied baskets without cloth. Mix the supplied Teichlehm with garden or pond soil only, not with sand or other additives.
  • Loose Oxygen Plants: Plants such as Crabweed, Waterweed, Moss balls, and Hornleaf should be placed loose in the pond and not fixed.
  • Loose aquatic plant plugs: Plants such as Sumpf schwertlilie, Swan Flower, Dwarf Gloddock, Greater Lisoddock, Pied Calamus, Pikeweed (Swamp Hyacinth), and Blue Ribbon supplied as loose plugs should be planted only in pond substrate. The use of other soil materials such as lava is not covered by the warranty.

2.The placement of the plants

  • Planting depth: Plant the aquatic plant at the specified depth as listed on the package with a minimum planting depth of 5 cm underwater.
  • Plant Location: Do not place the plant too close to a fountain, filter or pump, and not in the ditch where various factors can hinder plant growth.
  • No carp-like fish: Do not place the plant in a pond with koi carp or other carp-like fish.

3a .Setting up the pond / water feature

  • Minimum depth: The pond should have a minimum depth of 20 centimeters to prevent the water from heating up too quickly.
  • Edges and tubs: Avoid unfinished black edges or small tubs that can lead to a sweltering water environment.
  • Adequate water content: Make sure the pond contains enough water to avoid large temperature fluctuations.
  • Substrate: For non-natural ponds (made of concrete, plastic container or pond liner), provide a layer of at least 8 to 10 cm of substrate over the entire bottom of the pond.
  • Biological balance: Provide a mix of low-growing oxygen plants, loose oxygen plants, water lilies, aquatic plants and Sumpfpflanzen. Also add pond bacteria twice a year.

3b.Setting up a plant filter of e.g. a swimming pond

  • Using the right pond substrate: Use pond substrate instead of alternatives such as lava.
  • Sufficient substrate: Provide a layer of at least 8 to 10 cm of substrate.
  • Diversity of plants: Provide both tall and low plants in the pond.
  • Strength of cohesion between plants: Keep in mind that plants need each other for biological balance.

4.Aftercare

  • Add pond bacteria: Add pond bacteria twice a year - in spring after winter and in fall before winter.
  • No external agents: For our 100% growth and flowering guarantee, no external agents such as GH plus or other water improvers should be used.

Note: Water testing is not recommended because water values fluctuate. It is important to respect the natural balance.

These conditions have been established to ensure that your aquatic plants have the best chance to grow and bloom. If you follow these conditions and your plants do not show growth or bloom, please contact us for further assist

If your plants do not seem to be growing we would like to ask you to read the points below carefully and to check that the points below have been met. It is also important that the plants are planted according to the instructions provided, otherwise there is a chance that they will not grow. If it turns out that you can claim the grow and bloom guarantee is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase:

We always perform a quality check when our aquatic plants leave the nursery.

We offer a 100% growth and flowering guarantee on these plants under the following conditions:

  • For plants where baskets are included, use only our baskets without cloth. Mix the included pond clay only with garden or pond soil, and not with sand or other additives.
  • Plant the aquatic plant at the specified depth as stated on the package.
  • Do not place the plant too close to a fountain, filter or pump.
  • Do not place the plant in a pond with koi carp or other carp-like fish.

Keep in mind that aquatic plants do not sprout until April, when temperatures rise. The plant takes about a month to sprout.

Allow the plant to acclimate and sprout for several weeks. For accelerated growth, consider the following points:

  • Keep the pond basket up to 10 inches below the water surface (from the top of the rim) for a few weeks. This gives the plant more warmth and light, promoting growth. It is easy to raise the basket by placing, for example, paving stones under the basket.
  • Move the pond basket to a sunny spot in the pond or temporarily to a water tank.
  • If after these steps you are still convinced that the plant will not grow, send us an e-mail with photos of the plant and its location in the pond. Unfortunately, we cannot process your request without photos.

After receiving all the information, we will find a suitable solution for you.

We deliberately always leave brown leaves on when we ship the plant. This brown leaf provides protection of the growth core during transport. Also in winter, when the plant goes into hibernation, brown leaves form to protect the growth core from the cold.

Plants are packed by us dry, which means that the plant will only start to sprout at the moment it is placed in the pond. The advantage of dry-packed plants is that they can be shipped without damage during transport. Sometimes the plug, as the small plant is called, contains brown leaves on the outside. We always leave this leaf on to protect the growth core.

Our plants are shipped as plugs, these are young plants consisting mainly of primal roots and the occasional single leaf. This is because the roots are the most important thing about the whole plant. Roots determine strength and growth. When these plugs are placed in the pond, they will grow into stronger and healthier plants, than when a larger plant is planted in the pond, which has to switch to a new habitat. Our plants are always supplied without flowers. This, to save the strength of the plant and eliminate the risk of damage during transport.

This depends on a number of factors. These include the amount of sunshine and the outside temperature. As long as there is no ice in the pond, aquatic plants can be placed in the pond. However, they will not grow during the winter months. Once it warms up, the plants will start to sprout quickly. The growth rate can vary from year to year, depending on environmental factors. With new plantings, the pond must come into balance and this takes time. Nature will take care of this itself and this sometimes requires a little patience.

We use only these species because they come back more beautiful every year. Garden centers usually sell a wide range of aquatic plants, most of which are unfortunately not hardy. This means that you have to buy new pond plants every year. We have deliberately chosen for a small assortment of all hardy water plants, which come back more beautiful every year and with which a clear, biologically balanced pond can easily be achieved.

We grow in harmony with nature. We protect the environment by not using chemical, but if necessary, biological pesticides. At our nursery we move with the seasons, in winter the plants go into hibernation. Our greenhouse is not heated. All plants are grown without using electricity or gas.
