6 expert tips for decorating your bonsai waterfall set

Discover our bonsai waterfall set, including a bonsai that we have raised with care for 10 years (3650 days). This set brings a piece of nature and tranquility to your home or office. It is easy to care for, which makes it perfect for beginners and experienced bonsai lovers alike. We hope you will take as good care of this bonsai as we did.

Bonsai waterfall set

1. Placement of the waterfall set

Place the bonsai waterfall set in a location where airflow is stable and avoid drafty areas. Make sure the set is not directly next to a window, to prevent cold or hot airflow from affecting the plant. It is essential that the set receive enough daylight, as this is necessary for the growth of the bonsai. Place the set in a spot with a stable room temperature to ensure optimal conditions. Have you found a nice spot for the set? Great! Then you can start setting up container.

2. Water Meter

Take the water meter and place it in the opening on the side of the bonsai inner container with the black side facing down. After this, place the inner container back into the large bonsai pot.

3. Checking and connecting

Check that the waterfall's pump is connected, is this the case? Super! Then it's time to plug it in so the pump can start working.

4. Watering part 1

Pour water over compartment 1 (the waterfall) until the waterfall begins to flow. Note: If you hear noise, check that the pump is in the center of the container and not vibrating against the side of the container.

5. Watering part 2

Slowly add water to compartment 2 (Bonsai) until the red ball on the water meter indicator shoots all the way up. To ensure that the soil absorbs the water well, water the tree 2 times, at an interval of about one minute. This is because the second time, the soil will absorb the water better.

6. Water meter drops

Water the bonsai every 3 days to every week, depending on the specific needs of your unique bonsai. You can tell how often your bonsai needs water by the water meter going down as well as by the soil becoming dry. Make sure the bonsai has "drunk" all the water from the reservoir before you water again. This will prevent you from overwatering the bonsai.

Tip: Does this water meter indicator not go up after watering? Rinse the water meter well under the faucet because there are probably some grains of soil stuck in the water meter 😉

7. Bonsai nutrition and soil

Trees in nature can get nutrition from the soil through their roots. A bonsai is a small tree grown in a pot grown . In this pot, it is not possible for the tree to search for food with its roots. Therefore, it is important to help the bonsai with this by giving 1 capful of Bonsaiworld Bonsai nutrition per 1 liter of water once every two weeks.

Good to know...

It is possible that the bonsai will lose some leaves in the first period after arrival. This is perfectly normal and the leaves will grow back after some time and proper care.

Frequently asked questions about Bonsai trees

Plants terrarium royalty

The ideal location for a bonsai depends on the type of bonsai you have, but most bonsai thrive with plenty of indirect sunlight and protection from extreme temperatures and drafts.

The frequency of watering varies depending on the size of the pot, the type of bonsai and environmental conditions. It is important to check the soil regularly and water only when the top layer feels dry.

This depends on the type of bonsai and your climate. Some bonsai can stay outside during the winter if they are sufficiently hardy, while others must be protected from cold temperatures indoors. It is important to understand the specific requirements of your bonsai and take appropriate measures.

The frequency of pruning depends on the rate of growth of your bonsai and the desired design. Generally, pruning is recommended when new growth becomes too long and to maintain the desired shape.

If you want to grow your bonsai you must repot your bonsai. Repotting should normally be done in early spring, when the tree is still hibernating. This way, the somewhat damaging effect of repotting is minimized. Repotting in early spring also ensures that root damage will heal quickly once the tree begins to grow.

Bonsai

Bonsai, the ancient art of growing miniature trees, has its origins in Asia, with deep roots in both China and Japan. The word "bonsai" is derived from the Chinese term "penzai," meaning "trained in a bowl." The history of bonsai goes back more than a thousand years, beginning as a practical method of growing small trees in pots for use in Chinese palace gardens. Later, in the 8th century, Japanese Buddhist monks brought the art of bonsai to Japan, where it was further refined and developed. Bonsai is much more than just the reduction of trees. It is a profound artistic expression, where each bonsai tree is considered a unique work of art that captures the natural beauty and power of nature in a limited space. Bonsai requires patience, precision and dedication to achieve and maintain the desired shape and style.

Bonsai waterfall

The "Bonsai Waterfall" is a fascinating and artistic form within the world of bonsai art. This style, also known as "Kengai" in Japanese, mimics the natural growth habit of trees growing over a cliff or along a mountainside. Here, the branches and sometimes even the trunk of the tree hang down, like a waterfall of greenery. We have mimicked this style with our bonsai waterfall set for your home, so you can have a piece of Japanese bonsai art in your home.
