Tillandsia care: 10 expert tips for taking care of your Tillandsia
Tillandsia also known as air plants grow differently than most other houseplants, so they can be confusing for the beginner. They are really strong, and require much less attention than other houseplants.
1. Watering
Watering a Tillandsia is a little different than with a potted plant. The easiest way is to immerse the plant in water. Preferably rainwater at room temperature. You can easily leave the plant floating on the water for an hour.
2. Water adequately
Be sure to water the little plant regularly.
3. Let the plantlets dry thoroughly
After spraying or dipping, let the plant drain upside down on a piece of kitchen paper. This will ensure, that it doesn't stay wet between the leaves and thus prevent mold and rot.
4. Pitch
Actually, little plants do well anywhere in the house. Because the plant is not in a pot, you can go in any direction with this easy mini-plant. Just watch out for too much sunlight. This could burn the leaves and dry out the plant.
5. Fertilization
Give your airplant an extra boost from time to time by spraying it with Tillandsia spray. This is not a substitute for rainwater but a bonus.
6. Pruning is not necessary
Air plants grow very slowly, so pruning will not be necessary. We can cut off any brown tips that eventually develop on the slightly older leaves.
7. Air supply
Since this plant lives off the air, it is important that the air plant gets enough fresh air (adequate ventilation). So make sure you do not place the plantlets in a closed ecosystem.
8. Temperature
Air plants do best at room temperature, around 20 degrees celcius. In any case, make sure the plants never get colder than 10 degrees celcius. And on hot days it is recommended to water the airplants a little more often.
9. Humidity
Air plants get their nutrition and moisture from the air. When humidity is low, the plants have a harder time getting all the nutrients they need from the air. For example, never hang the plants near a central heating system. This causes the plants to dry out quickly.
10. Avoid cold air flow
Airplants like fresh, moving air, but make sure they are not in cold drafts.

Tillandsias grow slowly. The small plants take an average of 2 years to grow about 5cm. If you give air plants enough light and water, some species can even give flowers within 6 months.
This depends a bit on the conditions the plant is in. When it is very hot, or the humidity is low, the plant can use some extra water. It is also necessary to give the plant proper care by spraying the plant occasionally with Tillandsia spray.
These easy air plants are great for people with pets. We grow all our plants 100% organically, without chemical additives or pesticides. This makes our plants non-toxic to animals.
You care for air plants by lightly watering them once or twice a week with rainwater or tap water at room temperature. For an extra boost, you can occasionally treat them with Tillandsia spray, which promotes their growth and health.
Air plants can certainly grow, only they don't grow quickly. They multiply because small cuttings grow on the plant.
These cuttings are called "pups.
It is quite common for the underside of Tillandsias to be brown, while the stems are often green or red. This is part of the natural character of these plants.
Although Tillandsias are soft and beautiful plants that serve perfectly as decoration, they are also somewhat fragile. They can be easily damaged or fall apart if you touch them too much. However, this is not a sign of an unhealthy plant, but simply a feature of this delicate species.
