Buy Water Lily

Buying water lilies for your pond? These graceful pond flowers as well as hard-working water plants decorate any pond with their flower colors. They are hardy and provide shelter for marine life in addition to their beautiful appearance. Water lilies for deep and shallow ponds also block the sun's heat, keeping the water temperature stable. This inhibits the growth of algae. Of course you want to enjoy your beautiful water lily for as long as possible, we'll tell you more about the foliage, growth, water lily varieties and how to prune a water lily.

Buy mini water lily for small ponds

You can buy a mini water lily such as the white dwarf water lily Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Alba' at Van der Velde Waterplants. It is delivered from our own nursery and includes a pond basket, clay, fertilizer and cover gravel. You can also buy another small water lily from us: the beautiful red water lily Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Rubra'. In addition to red and white, we also have two other small water lilies, the yellow Nymphaea 'Pygmaea Helvola' and orange Nymphaea 'Aurora'.

Planting water lilies in your pond

Many water lilies can be placed in different types of ponds, such as patio ponds and swim ponds. The white dwarf water lily fits well in a mini pond and is a popular aquatic plant among water lilies. With beautiful, snow-white flowers, this plant decorates any pond! The flowers bloom from June to September.

Planting a water lily is fairly easy. There are several waterlily varieties, each with its own recommendation for depth. This depth is indicated on the packaging. The standard rule is not to plant a dwarf water lily deeper than -40 cm and a large water lily at a maximum depth of -100 cm.

With a pond depth of, say, -120 cm, it is advisable to place the basket around the water lilies on an elevation, so that it is not as deep and the leaves can grow to the surface more quickly. Water lilies take root at the bottom of the pond and grow best in calm, still water. Because the roots grow horizontally, it is best to place waterleli in a crate with a low rim. This way the roots will grow well.

Planting a water lily is very simple. You receive a pond basket from us in which you place the lily. You then place it in the pond at the depth indicated on the packaging. For detailed instructions on how to plant a water lily, watch our tips and instruction video.

If you have placed the water lily at the right depth and also added enough oxygen plants and aquatic plants in the pond, then you do not need to take care of a water lily. The only thing you can do after a few years is prune the water lily so that it can start growing again.

Our recommendation is to place at least 1 water lily per 0.5 to 3 m³ of water.

If a water lily is not planted too deep and receives enough light, it can grow 1 meter in just a few weeks in summer.

You plant a water lily in a pond basket, which you then place upright in the pond. If you have a deep pond, you can use tiles or crates to create an elevation to ensure that the water lily is not as deep. This promotes growth.

In addition to being an eye-catcher, a water lily is also very effective in keeping sunlight out of the pond. Because of the water lily leaf, the water heats up less quickly and this causes algae to grow less quickly. The water lily leaf also protects fish from a heron, for example.
