Buy Plant filter

A plant filter is a natural filter where the plants themselves purify the water without the use of a pump. The cooperation of certain plant species and pond bacteria ensures that harmful substances are broken down from the water and the pond water is purified. For optimal filtration, we offer specially formulated plant filter packages.

Helophyte filter pond

A helophyte is a perennial or biennial plant whose submerged buds alone survive the winter; everything above the water's surface dies off. When a helophyte is too deep below the water table, it can die from lack of sunlight. Well-known helophytes that can be used as a helophyte filter include: yellow iris, calamus and bulrush. In proper composition, helophytes provide very good purification of pond water.

Making plant filters for the pond

A good plant filter is a combination of the right species and quantity of pond plants. For optimal purification, use the right pond substrate (so the plants can attach well to and in the substrate ) and add oxygen plants, such as hornwort, crabgrass and waterweed. Biological swamp filter pond

A plant filter or swamp filter is a natural filter where plants and bacteria provide water filtration. Some plants are helophytes, that is, perennials where only the buds survive under water during the winter.

An organic pond or natural pond requires little maintenance and has minimal environmental impact. This is because pumps and filters are unnecessary in it, as the aquatic plants provide a natural balance. An organic pond is a pleasant place for insects and amphibians.

Natural filter build yourself in the pond

When building a natural filter, there are a number of factors to consider. The first is where you are going to build the pond. Plants grow best in a sunny spot. To keep the water from heating up too much, water lilies are an excellent solution. The large leaves of the water lily ensure that the sun has less chance of extremely raising the water temperature. Also, the leaves provide a good hiding place for marine life. Second, the pond depth is important. Provide a depth of at least -80 cm so that fish have the opportunity to overwinter. Third, a bottom of the right substrate is important. In this substrate can grow bacteria that purify the water and plants can easily attach themselves in and to a bottom of substrate. All pond packages include a proper composition of plants and the proper substrate.

Clear water without a filter pump

A pond can remain clear and balanced without a pump or filter when the right composition of plants is present in the pond. These plants, along with bacteria, ensure that the water is purified of pollutants and remains clear and healthy.

Learn more about a pond without a pump.

A plant filter or helophyte filter provides water filtration. Plants carry oxygen to the roots, where the water is more oxygenated. The supply of oxygen allows bacteria located at the base of the stems to grow well. These bacteria purify the water of pollutants. Marsh plants absorb wastes such as nitrate and nitrite from the water, purifying the water.

For an organic pond, it is important to establish a good marsh zone. Most aquatic plants grow well in depths down to -20 cm. It is important to create a large marsh zone. The larger the zone, the better the water will be filtered. In addition to the size of the zone, the composition of the plants is also important, think marsh plants, oxygen plants and water lilies.

Dig a filter area and lay the pond liner in it. Then apply a layer of substrate of about 10 cm. This is where the marsh plants can be planted. Use enough plants, you will have enough with this natural filter. Then secure the plants with another layer of substrate of about 10 cm. Finally, place the floating oxygen plants, which also keep the sun out of the water. This reduces water heating and inhibits algae growth. Read all the explanations to make a plant filter.

The size of a plant filter is best to be as large as possible. This is because the larger the plant filter, the better the filtration and the lower the water load.

A good plant filter is about -40 cm deep. Most aquatic plants grow well at -20 cm depth.

The top 6 best plants for a natural pond filter as far as we are concerned are: yellow lis, calamus, water mint, dwarf licorice, needlewort and featherweed. These plants can also be ordered from us as a complete package, a plant filter mix of 64 plants, specially formulated for optimal filtration and clear water.

This depends on the season. In the spring, plants will grow rapidly and during the summer the growth slows down. We allow for approximately 16 plants per m2 in our specially formulated plant filter packages.
