Controlling floating algae
Fighting floating algae in pond? You recognize floating algae in the pond by a green discoloration of the water. These single-celled organisms float through the water, making the water cloudy. How do you ensure that you do not suffer from floating algae?
- Provide plenty of oxygen plants in the pond
- Use the right pond substrate
- Place aquatic plants that release CO2 such as water lilies and marsh plants
- Use pond plant clay. The extra minerals in the clay will increase water hardness.
Fortunately, when the harm is already done and floating algae threaten to take over the pond, there are tools to combat this algae.
In this case, the use of a Pond Block is very effective. When using Pond Blocks (1 per 1,000 liters of water), the pond is algae-free after 10 days. Pond Blocks are not harmful to the plants and animals in the pond and very easy to use.
